Amid ongoing tribal tensions and online bigotry, an Igbo man stirred more controversy by saying, “Nobody plays tribalism more than the Igbos. Don’t let them gaslight you with ordinary advert; bigotry and tribalism originated from Southeast!” Rather than calling for peace and understanding, this statement fuels further division.
It’s dangerous when members of a tribe publicly generalize and condemn their own people, especially in an already tense atmosphere. Such comments not only encourage outsiders to justify prejudice but also deepen internal resentment and mistrust. Tribalism is a national problem that transcends regions — it is found across Nigeria. Statements like this do not promote accountability or unity; they only strengthen stereotypes and hate. What is needed now is dialogue, empathy, and collective effort to rebuild trust — not more words that pit Nigerians against one another.
