A post on Instagram showing a house help caught putting poison in her employer’s food sparked widespread criticism. Among the comments, one blamed Nollywood, stating, “I think we should blame Nollywood.” While Nollywood films often portray extreme scenarios involving domestic workers, holding the entertainment industry responsible for real-life criminal behaviour oversimplifies the issue. Movies are a reflection of society, not the cause of its problems.

Blaming Nollywood distracts from the real issue of trust, safety, and moral responsibility. The actions of individuals should be held accountable to their personal choices, not attributed to fictional portrayals. Instead of pointing fingers at the media, the focus should be on fostering better relationships, providing proper training, and ensuring a safe working environment for all.
