In response to a video showing a Canadian returnee refusing a baseless search by Nigerian police and accusing them of harassment, one comment suggested, “Give dem 1k or 2k make them take buy bottle water and go where you dey go.”
While the intention might be to diffuse tension, this approach perpetuates a culture of bribery and corruption. Offering money as a “solution” encourages law enforcement to target innocent individuals, knowing they might gain financially.
