A post reported that the Federal Pensioners of Nigeria threatened a nationwide naked protest on November 24 if the government fails to pay their outstanding pension increment arrears and palliative allowances.
One user commented, “It’s high time we need to caution all these our national ex-workers so they’ll know that serving the country was a privilege for them and they’all earned enough then.”
This dismissive comment ignores the reality that pensioners depend on their earned benefits to live. Serving the country is indeed a privilege, but it does not negate the right to fair treatment or entitlements. Such remarks show a lack of empathy and undermine the dignity of those who spent their lives contributing to national development.
Respecting citizens, especially retirees, is the first step toward a just society.
