A comment that drew attention under the story of the woman who left her marriage after her husband slept with and impregnated their maid simply stated: “First thing first, we’ll need to hear the husband’s side as well.”
While on the surface this may appear fair, in context it shifts focus from clear acts of betrayal and harm to procedural balance. The husband’s infidelity, resulting pregnancy, and refusal to support the children are already established facts in the woman’s account. Insisting on hearing “his side” can inadvertently minimize her experience and delay accountability.
Such comments highlight a common tendency to prioritize neutrality over justice, especially when women report wrongdoing. In cases of clear violation, balance should not excuse harm or distract from the responsibilities of the perpetrator.
