A post on X attacked the Church with the claim: “Church is a place where wicked people in our society gather to hide themselves and pretend like they are not wicked.” The statement framed religious spaces not as communities of worship or moral reform, but as shelters for hypocrites trying to cover up bad character. That sweeping accusation immediately drew controversy because it reduced millions of believers and thousands of diverse churches to a single negative stereotype. While there are real and well-documented cases of people using religion to mask harmful behaviour, turning that into a blanket description of all churchgoers is intellectually lazy and socially divisive. It ignores the many churches involved in charity, counselling, community support, and personal transformation, and instead paints faith itself as nothing more than a hiding place for wickedness.
