A post reported that the Federal Pensioners of Nigeria threatened a nationwide naked protest on November 24 if the government fails to pay their outstanding pension increment arrears and palliative allowances.
One insensitive comment read, “These same elders who failed in their generation by not standing up to the corrupt government during their time are now crying.”
This statement unfairly shifts blame to those who are now victims of a broken system. Many of these pensioners served faithfully, often under harsh conditions, with little power to change the system they worked in. They deserve empathy, not mockery.
Holding the elderly accountable for today’s problems is not justice — it’s cruelty. Instead of pointing fingers, we should demand transparency and respect for those who built the foundation we now stand on
