After the death of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a Nigerian Army officer allegedly set ablaze by his wife during a domestic dispute in Akwa Ibom, another comment read, “I wonder what he did to make her so angry.” This kind of remark implies that the victim’s actions might have justified the violence, which is deeply troubling. No matter the reason or level of anger, setting someone on fire is inexcusable. Comments like this normalize abuse by trying to find reasons behind a cruel act instead of condemning it. Anger should never lead to violence — self-control and separation are always the better options.
