After CCTV footage showed a man stealing the Monstrance and other sacred items from a Roman Catholic Church, many Nigerians expressed shock and disappointment. However, one disturbing comment tried to make light of the crime, saying, “No be stealing. Na God told him to go and open his branch. Abeg make una allow him enjoy God’s property.” This remark mocks the sanctity of religious symbols and trivializes theft under the guise of humor. Making jokes about such an act shows moral decay and lack of reverence for faith. Crime should never be excused or turned into a religious joke.
