After the report of Chukwudi Nwachukwu, a Nigerian man sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labour for trafficking over 20 young girls into Ghana for prostitution, one questionable comment read, “He is just trying to develop Ghana and you are sentencing him, Ghana needs to be developed.”

This insensitive remark attempts to make a joke out of a grave human trafficking case that destroyed lives. Human trafficking is a serious crime and a violation of human rights, not an act of “development.” Such comments trivialize the suffering of victims and normalize exploitation. It’s important to recognize that these are real people who were deceived, abused, and stripped of dignity — not a subject for mockery or sarcasm.
