After the demolition of Trade Fair Plaza buildings, an Igbo man commented: “This is good for Igbos.” Such a statement is troubling because it glorifies the loss of people’s livelihoods and investments. Regardless of tribe, no one benefits from seeing businesses destroyed, especially in a country where citizens struggle daily to survive. Supporting the suffering of your own people only normalizes injustice and distracts from holding authorities accountable. Instead of celebrating destruction, the focus should be on advocating for fairness, proper land verification, and policies that protect everyone’s investments—so communities can grow stronger, not weaker, together.
