Following the shocking story of a landlord’s daughter allegedly assisting a male tenant to rape and murder their female neighbour, one comment read, “Please they should do more investigation about this issue there’s more hidden things, I don’t believe that girl will assist the guy to rape another girl.”
While it’s valid to call for thorough investigation, the problem lies in assuming that a woman is incapable of such evil. Gender should never be used as a shield against accountability. Both men and women are capable of committing crimes, and justice requires evidence, not bias. Dismissing the woman’s possible involvement simply because she’s female downplays the gravity of the offense and reinforces gender stereotypes that hinder fair justice. Everyone, regardless of gender, should be equally scrutinized when accused of a crime.
