A woman boldly declared online, “In 2027, I will still vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.” Someone replied with a perfect metaphor: “In other words, this food is poisonous to me but I will keep eating it because it’s my tribe’s best.”
Instead of addressing the point, she doubled down with, “As long as it is my tribeman, no problem. I like it like that.”
And that right there is the real issue — not her preferred candidate, but the mindset. Voting based purely on tribe, even when performance is bad and the country is suffering, is exactly why Nigeria keeps recycling the same problems. When loyalty to ethnicity outweighs loyalty to progress, everyone loses.
Democracy dies when people stop choosing leaders and start choosing tribes.
