Original post: a terrorist—also a TikToker—brazenly flaunted his share of ransom money from kidnapped victims, and the clip shockingly pulled in thousands of likes.

The comment that followed: “Omo e be like this bandit work money dey am o. I need apply.” — a dangerous, glib expression of envy and intent to join criminality.

This is alarming. Praising ransom and expressing a desire to “apply” normalises kidnapping and incentivises more violence. It ignores the ruined lives, trauma and legal consequences that follow such crimes. Instead of glamorising ill-gotten gains, we should report the content, flag accounts that celebrate criminality, and demand stronger enforcement. Society must reject shortcuts built on others’ suffering — prosperity earned through crime is a false, destructive promise.
