After news spread that NNPC Chief Paulinus Okoronkwo forfeited his $2.5 million mansion following a money laundering conviction, one tribal comment read: “Because he’s an Igbo man, no problem, time will tell.” This statement completely misses the issue. Instead of addressing the crime, it drags ethnicity into a matter of personal wrongdoing. Corruption has no tribe — it’s an individual choice. Defending someone simply because they share your ethnic background promotes bias and undermines justice. Every offender should be judged by their actions, not their roots. Tribal loyalty should never outweigh truth, integrity, or accountability.
