A bigoted post on X had earlier sparked outrage after claiming “Igbo women are angels, Yoruba women are whores,” pitting two ethnic groups against each other using crude and misogynistic stereotypes. Rather than addressing the offensiveness of that claim or challenging the narrative, the conversation quickly degenerated further.
In response to the attack on Yoruba women, one commenter escalated the hostility by turning the insult toward an entire ethnic group, writing “Igbo people are useless.”
This exchange shows how quickly online discourse can spiral into ethnic abuse, where individual posts become excuses for collective insults. Instead of calling out prejudice, commenters often respond with more prejudice, deepening divisions and normalizing dehumanizing language against whole communities.
