The demolition of over 19 buildings at Trade Fair Plaza by the Lagos State Government sparked outrage, with many urging buyers to verify land ownership and agencies to prevent such losses. Sadly, some twisted the pain into tribal attacks. A Yoruba commenter wrote: “They should go and invest in their area,” assuming the affected buildings belonged to Igbo businessmen. This mindset is dangerous. Property ownership should never be restricted by tribe. Every Nigerian has the right to live, work, and invest anywhere in the country. Supporting destruction as a way to “chase people home” only fuels division and hate.
