A deeply offensive post recently surfaced online, where a man accused the Igbo people of “stealing” aspects of other tribes’ cultures, adding, “They are about to steal gele and rename it ichafu, Igborila animals are cultureless.” This statement is not only hateful but also ignorant. Every Nigerian tribe has its unique traditions and contributions to the nation’s rich cultural diversity. Insulting an entire ethnic group and calling them “cultureless” promotes dangerous tribal division. Culture is meant to unite and celebrate diversity, not breed hostility. Such comments don’t show pride — they expose deep-rooted prejudice and insecurity.
