A deeply offensive and bigoted post on X read, “Walahi Ibos have the highest ratio of idiots per square meter, more than any tribe in the world.” This statement is not only hateful but also dangerously divisive.
Such remarks promote tribal hatred and reinforce negative stereotypes that have long caused disunity in Nigeria. No tribe is superior or inferior to another — every ethnic group contributes uniquely to the nation’s growth. Insulting an entire tribe based on prejudice fosters resentment and widens the gap between communities.
Disagreement or criticism should never turn into hate speech. Nigerians must learn to engage respectfully, focusing on individual actions rather than using ethnicity as a weapon of discrimination.
