After the report that a landlord’s daughter allegedly helped a male tenant rape and murder their female neighbour, one insensitive comment read, “Checking the comments section, I see Igbos are offline! What’s up?”

This kind of remark is completely misplaced and dangerous. A tragic crime like rape and murder should unite people in demanding justice, not divide them along ethnic lines. Bringing tribalism into a criminal case trivializes the suffering of the victim and turns a serious matter into a tribal competition. Crime has no tribe, religion, or region—it should be condemned regardless of who commits it. Comments like this only fuel ethnic hatred and distract from the real issue: the need for justice and safety for all.
