A viral video showed bus drivers dangerously reversing on the highway to shorten their route and avoid arrest for driving one-way. Shockingly, one commenter proudly admitted, “I have used this tactic since around 2012–2013 when I first started driving.” This reveals how deeply normalized reckless behavior has become among some drivers. Instead of shame, there’s pride in endangering lives. Such attitudes contribute to countless preventable road accidents in Nigeria. Driving should be about responsibility, not shortcuts. Until road users value safety over selfish convenience, chaos on our highways will continue to thrive — and innocent lives will keep paying the price.
