A recent interview by Pastor Abel Damina featured a Northern Nigerian Christian minister who shared a harrowing testimony of conversion, persecution, and fear for his life. He narrated how he was attacked, threatened, and now hesitates to return home.

Among the many reactions, one comment stood out as controversial and insensitive: “Even the Bible said Fear North. Truth be told if you want to see hard core Christians that are ready to die for their belief go to North.”

The comment is controversial because it frames an entire region as dangerous while framing persecution as a measure of faith. It is insensitive because it risks trivializing the trauma of individuals facing real threats. While faith is personal and courage commendable, generalizing violence and fear across geographic lines risks reinforcing stereotypes and widening divisions.

The Red Flags highlights this as a red flag for insensitive generalization and perpetuating fear-based narratives about Northern Nigeria.
