A disturbing video surfaced online showing a foreign man angrily insulting the Super Falcons squad, blaming them for the killings of Christians in the North — as if footballers are responsible for national security. Nigerians immediately called him out, reminding him that you can express concern without spewing insults. But one comment still tried to defend him: “He’s pissed… don’t blame him.”

This excuse makes no sense. How can someone who isn’t even Nigerian be “more pissed” than the people who actually live here, have families here, and deal with insecurity daily? There’s a difference between empathy and overstepping.

Supporting victims of violence is one thing; attacking innocent women representing the country is another. Excusing his behaviour only encourages outsiders to disrespect Nigerians while pretending they are “more concerned” than the citizens themselves.

Anger should never justify misplaced aggression — especially against people who have nothing to do with the issue.
