After the NDLEA arrested a mother and son for dealing in cannabis, one unnecessary comment dragged ethnicity into it: “Nawa… later they will say is Igbos.” This kind of remark is harmful because it shifts focus from the crime to tribal blame. Drug trafficking is not tied to one tribe; it’s a societal issue that cuts across all regions. Associating criminal acts with a particular ethnic group fuels stereotypes, division, and hate. Instead of using tragedies to push tribal narratives, conversations should remain on accountability, justice, and finding solutions. Crime has no tribe—only individuals who choose wrong.
