After reports emerged that gunmen abducted six Defence Ministry directors on their way to Abuja, Nigerians expressed shock and concern. Yet, one disturbing comment downplayed the incident, saying, “Just a regular day in Nigeria, nothing to worry about.”
This kind of reaction normalizes tragedy. When abductions of top government officials are treated casually, it shows how desensitized society has become to insecurity. There’s everything to worry about — if those responsible for national defence aren’t safe, what hope do ordinary citizens have? Treating such a serious issue as normal only weakens the collective call for accountability and reform.
Red flag 🚩: When danger becomes “normal,” safety stops being a priority.
