In response to LASCOPA sealing a supermarket in Festac for selling expired products, one comment read: “Because it’s owned by an Igbo man, so sad.”
This statement unfairly shifts the focus from the issue at hand—selling expired and potentially harmful products—to a negative tribal stereotype. The real concern should be the public health risks posed by the supermarket’s negligence, not the ethnic background of the owner.
Tribal stereotyping only distracts from the accountability needed in situations like this.
