Following the announcement of Lt General Taoreed Abiodun Labaja’s passing, many paid tribute to his contributions in combating insurgency and strengthening national security. Amid the condolences, however, one comment stood out, reading, “He failed his duty as army staff by pledging all his support/loyalty to a clueless president😉.”
This insensitive remark disregards the commitment and sacrifices of the late General, shifting the focus from his service to political criticism. Such statements not only disrespect the memory of a public servant but also undermine the work of those in national defense. While constructive critiques are valid, a respectful tone is essential, especially in times of mourning, to honor both the individual and the complex duties they undertook in service to the country.
