A viral post on Nigerian X showed a business-woman known for marketing her brand under people’s tweets urgently asking for support—her breast visibly swollen, resembling symptoms of Breast Cancer. While many users responded with empathy and donation links, one comment stood out for the wrong reasons: “Wetin go make am swell like this? Too much sucking???”
This isn’t just dark humor—it’s dehumanization. When illness meets mockery, we normalize cruelty, especially toward women whose bodies are constantly policed, joked about, or sexualized. Such comments shift the conversation from “How can we help?” to “What can we blame or shame?”—a classic red flag of a society that entertains callousness for engagement.
Kindness is free. Mocking someone’s potential medical crisis should never trend.
