A recent post sparked debate after actor Tobi Bakare lifted his longtime friend, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, during a visit to his church. While many saw it as a harmless gesture between friends, critics raised concerns, with one comment stating, “Who started the idea of man lifting fellow man, this gesture is for women.”
Such ideologies reflect rigid gender norms that limit how men can express themselves. These outdated beliefs prevent men from engaging in simple acts of affection or camaraderie without fear of judgment or being labeled. Friendship should be about genuine connection, not constrained by societal expectations. Men should feel free to express their bonds openly without being shamed or criticized for showing joy, love, or support for one another.
