A woman shared her experience of being told, “You’re not even rapeable, you’re safe,” a deeply demeaning and violent remark. After reporting the comment to the man’s employer, he was fired and is now facing prosecution. While many supported her actions, one response claimed, “In Nigeria the men will support the man.” This statement is misleading and harmful. It falsely portrays Nigerian men as collective supporters of sexual violence, ignoring the many who condemned the comment and stood with the victim. Such generalizations shift focus away from individual accountability and reinforce damaging stereotypes. Sexual violence is not defended by gender or nationality. Justice is achieved by challenging harmful behavior, not by painting entire groups as complicit when evidence shows otherwise.
