After a video showed a man being assaulted over ₦11 million allegedly linked to fraud, reactions online continued to escalate. One particularly dangerous comment read: “If tomorrow na the guy use toolz find una after this, una go say e wicked,” implying that if the abused man later returned with a gun, people would still label him evil. This comment is alarming because it casually anticipates and almost justifies further violence. It acknowledges the cycle of brutality while treating it as inevitable rather than wrong. Normalizing such thinking promotes retaliation, gun violence, and lawlessness. Violence does not become acceptable because the victim is flawed or criminally involved. When online discourse begins to predict and excuse bloodshed, it reflects how desensitized society has become to human life. Justice cannot exist where violence is expected, excused, or entertained.
