A video surfaced online showing police officers storming a bush in search of kidnappers. However, the operation appeared poorly coordinated and staged, leaving many Nigerians confused, disappointed, and questioning the seriousness of the effort. Instead of inspiring confidence in law enforcement, the video sparked ridicule and frustration online.
One comment reacting to the clip read, “Our country dey peak fool.” While this statement reflects public anger, it shifts the focus away from the real issue. The problem is not the country or its citizens, but the apparent lack of professionalism, transparency, and seriousness displayed in the operation. Generalizing institutional failure as a national trait only fuels self-mockery and hopelessness.
Valid criticism should demand accountability, better training, and genuine action from security agencies. Insulting the entire country may feel like an outlet for frustration, but it weakens the call for meaningful reform and normalizes failure instead of challenging it.
