A man urged Nigerians to get weapons, saying age, gender or religion are no excuse. That’s dangerous. Arming civilians fuels vigilante justice, escalates violence, and puts already-vulnerable people at far greater risk. Crime won’t be solved by more guns; it will worsen mistrust and accidental harm. The safer path is demanding accountable policing, strengthening community policing and emergency response, investing in public safety infrastructure, and supporting victim services. For personal safety, choose lawful, nonlethal measures (awareness, secure locks, verified self-defence training) and push for systemic reforms. Violence isn’t a solution — it’s a symptom that better governance must cure.
