The comment, “If you are wise don’t wait for the DSS or Police to protect you oh! Go and find a way of having guns at home,” came after the DSS warned of an imminent ISWAP attack in Ondo and Kogi states. It reflected growing public frustration and loss of confidence in Nigeria’s security agencies. However, encouraging citizens to arm themselves is dangerous and could worsen insecurity, leading to more violence and misuse of weapons. Instead of promoting self-armament, citizens should demand accountability from the government and support community policing efforts. Fear should never justify actions that could destabilize society further.
