Following Nnamdi Kanu’s sentencing, emotions spilled over online — and one particularly charged comment declared: “Today’s judgment is pathway to Biafra freedom.”
It’s a dramatic take, but also a dangerous one. Turning a court verdict into a rallying cry for national breakup only stokes the tension already thick in the air. Yes, many people feel the justice system is inconsistent, political, or outright flawed — that frustration is real. But framing the judgment as some kind of “green light” for secession oversimplifies a complex issue and pushes conversations toward instability rather than solutions.
Nigeria is deeply fractured, no doubt, but tying every grievance to the collapse of the union only fuels more bitterness. What we need are reforms, transparency, and dialogue — not comments that ignite more division.
