A viral story surfaced about a man in Germany who planned to relocate and marry a woman in Nigeria, only to discover through a DNA test that he was not the biological father of the child he had supported with over 14,000 euros. While the story itself sparked emotional reactions, one particular comment pushed an unnecessary and damaging stereotype. The commenter wrote: “If you want to do DNA please let it not be in Africa. There’s less equipment and unprofessional doctors. Go abroad to be sure.”
This claim is not only misleading—it is dismissive of the many reputable medical laboratories operating across Africa. Suggesting that an entire continent lacks competence unfairly undermines qualified professionals and creates distrust in local institutions.
There are certified, accredited labs in various African countries that meet global standards for DNA testing. A single incident should never be used to discredit a whole region’s medical capacity.
