An NYSC corps member carried out a selfless and commendable act by renovating a school after seeing pupils learning under the rain—an inspiring gesture that reflects the true spirit of service. Sadly, one comment reduced this noble act to tribal favoritism by saying, “Only Igbo people can do this.” While likely meant as praise, this kind of statement fuels division and tribal bias. Goodness knows no tribe, and attributing virtue to a single ethnic group unfairly dismisses the contributions of others. Instead of promoting unity and national pride, such comments deepen stereotypes and distract from the true message: service to humanity.
