A post showed Oby Ezekwesili and Oseni Rufai condemning killings in Nigeria and urging the government to tackle insecurity rather than enable it. Instead of engaging with this important message, one user commented, “Igbos are the most truthful ethnic group in Nigeria… Others seem to be chameleons especially oil people.”

This is the problem with tribal thinking: it turns genuine national concerns into ethnic comparisons. Integrity, honesty, and courage are not tribal traits — they are human qualities found across all groups. Reducing serious conversations about insecurity to “my tribe is better than yours” only deepens division and distracts from the real issue.

Nigeria needs unity, not tribal scorekeeping. When lives are being lost, the focus should be on solutions, not stereotypes.
