A video showed a man adding an LG label to a television carton and reselling it as an original LG product, reigniting concerns about fake electronics in Nigeria. While many condemned the act as fraud, one user attempted to justify it by saying “Yes, I agree that it’s scam but the TVs are not fake. They import these brandless TVs from China and then repackage it here.”

That explanation still describes counterfeiting. Rebranding a product to pass it off as a well-known manufacturer’s item is the very definition of a fake product, regardless of whether the TV works or was legally imported. The deception lies in misrepresentation—selling a brand less product as LG—which makes it counterfeit and fraudulent under consumer protection standards.
