A man who was once sponsored into the university by Peter Obi and also received ₦400,000 from him during his tenure as Governor of Anambra recently returned to social media with a new request—asking Obi to support him with ₦10 million to start a business. The post quickly went viral, with many Nigerians calling out what they saw as blatant entitlement and ingratitude, arguing that prior support was meant to empower him to stand on his own.
Amid the backlash, one unrelated but controversial comment stood out: “To whom religion is Given sense is taken.”
Rather than addressing the entitlement issue, the remark attacked religious people broadly, implying they lack sense. Critics noted that the comment derailed the conversation and injected unnecessary bigotry into an already heated debate. While the man’s demand raised valid concerns about dependency and accountability, dragging religion into it only deepened divisions and distracted from the real issue at hand.
