A report that a court remanded 52 Ekpoma students for protesting against kidnapping and insecurity triggered intense reactions online. Among them was a particularly dangerous comment: “the community is toothless. what happens to taking out they and their family for such nonsense they always do. you can only match madness with madness.”
This statement is alarming because it calls for violence against judges and their families. That is not protest or accountability; it is incitement to collective punishment and terror. Even when people feel the justice system is acting unjustly, advocating harm against individuals and their relatives crosses a moral and legal line. It also undermines the very cause the students were protesting for—safety and rule of law—by replacing it with threats and vigilantism, which only escalates instability and puts innocent lives at risk
