A post claimed that “biblical scriptures back the fact that non-virgins don’t deserve bride price,” even comparing such women to scams. This statement is deeply offensive and misleading.
Bride price in African culture is not a payment for virginity. It represents respect, family union, and commitment. Reducing it to a reward system based on sexual history turns women into commodities and empties the tradition of its meaning.
The Bible is also being misused as a weapon. Scripture teaches responsibility, grace, and forgiveness—not public shaming or dehumanization. There is no biblical basis for equating a woman’s worth with virginity or likening her to a criminal.
Notably, these standards are rarely applied to men, exposing the hypocrisy behind such claims. This is less about morality and more about control.
Human dignity is not tied to sexual history. Marriage is about character and commitment, not purity policing.
