A controversial comment reacted to the incident by saying, “This is just to strengthen us because we’ve seen what no tribe in Nigeria can see and we’ve faced what no tribe in Nigeria can face.”
Statements like this may sound empowering on the surface, but they subtly promote tribal superiority and deepen existing divides. Suffering shouldn’t be turned into a competition, and no community should claim exclusive ownership of hardship. Every ethnic group in Nigeria has its own history of struggle, loss, and resilience.
Comments like this don’t encourage unity — they reinforce an “us versus them” mentality, making collective progress harder. Turning shared challenges into tribal bragging rights only fuels resentment and misunderstanding.
Pain shouldn’t be weaponized to elevate one group over others. What the country needs is solidarity, not a contest of who has suffered the most.
