Original post: gunmen attacked a Plateau village and killed a farmer—another tragic reminder of rural insecurity and its toll on families and food systems.
Comment that followed: “Allow farmer to carry gun is only solution let everyone have gun.”
Arming civilians as a blanket solution is dangerous. Flooding communities with weapons increases the risk of accidental shootings, vigilante violence, and weapons diversion to criminals, worsening the very insecurity it’s meant to solve. Real solutions are strengthening police and military response, improving intelligence and early-warning systems, investing in community policing and victim support, prosecuting perpetrators transparently, and tackling the root causes of violence (poverty, land disputes, and organized crime). Demand accountable security reforms, not quick fixes that trade one danger for another.
