A post online sparked discussion about ethnic tensions and political grievances, but one controversial comment crossed into a dangerous narrative. The user wrote, “Fulani people requested for the life of Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba people willingly gave him to them.”

This statement is deeply problematic because it suggests that entire ethnic groups—Fulani and Yoruba—are collectively responsible for the detention of one individual. It promotes a false, divisive, and inflammatory narrative that frames national issues as tribal battles.

Comments like this fuel resentment, pit communities against one another, and oversimplify complex legal and political matters into ethnic blame games. Nigeria’s issues should never be reduced to “one tribe versus another,” because doing so only deepens mistrust and tension.

Instead of promoting unity or constructive dialogue, such statements inflame hostility and push people further apart. It’s a reminder that careless ethnic generalizations can be just as harmful as outright hate speech—and should never be encouraged.
