Amid the controversy surrounding Sowore’s alleged involvement in the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and lawyer, another tribal remark surfaced: “Yoruba and betrayal be like Tom and Jerry.” This kind of statement is not only disrespectful but also divisive. It unfairly stereotypes an entire ethnic group based on isolated incidents. Such comments deepen mistrust and fuel ethnic animosity, which Nigeria already struggles with. Betrayal is not a tribal trait — it’s a human flaw. Reducing complex issues to ethnic insults prevents unity and progress. We must learn to criticize actions, not entire peoples, if we truly want peace and justice.
