Following Ned Nwoko’s statement expressing sympathy for men with only one wife, several controversial opinions flooded social media. One user wrote, “Polygamy was never about love but a show off of a man’s status.”

While this comment reflects a widely held belief, it unfairly generalizes every polygamous union as being driven by ego or social standing. Historically, polygamy in some cultures was tied to family structure, tradition, or economic capacity, not merely showmanship. Reducing it to a display of wealth ignores the diversity of reasons people enter such unions. Comments like this oversimplify a complex practice and fuel stereotypes that prevent balanced conversations about marriage choices and cultural values.
