A recent Facebook post celebrated the marriage of a Yoruba man to an Igbo woman, six years after he hinted at an interstate marriage. He shared, “I spoke this into existence and it came to reality.” Many rejoiced with the couple, but one insensitive comment sparked outrage, stating, “Please the remaining Igbo ladies should marry their tribe,” and urged all tribes to do the same.
This toxic ideology does more harm than good. Love should transcend tribal boundaries, promoting unity and understanding across cultures. Encouraging people to limit their relationships to their own tribe fosters division, perpetuating harmful stereotypes.
Celebrating interracial and intercultural marriages strengthens bonds between communities and reflects a more inclusive society. It’s essential to challenge divisive mindsets and embrace the beauty of diversity in relationships.
