A viral video showed a Nigerian terrorist, who also happens to be a TikToker, proudly flaunting his share of ransom money collected from kidnap victims. The disturbing part was that his post received over 6,000 likes, sparking outrage across social media. Amid the reactions, one user wrote, “How did he get 6k likes a terrorist o. Trump should come abeg. Anything him wan take no wahala.”

This kind of comment, while born out of frustration, is misguided and dangerous. Calling on a foreign president to “take anything he wants” from Nigeria implies surrendering the nation’s sovereignty out of despair. The focus should instead be on urging local authorities to act decisively against terrorism and on condemning social media platforms that amplify such content, not on wishing for foreign intervention.
