Following the video of police officers allegedly storming the bush to search for kidnappers, one user went further with repeated self-mocking remarks, writing: “Like they need to leave number 1–3 spots for us, we actually the global king of fooling.”
This comment goes beyond criticism and descends into collective self-insult. While the video raised valid concerns about how serious and effective the operation appeared, turning that disappointment into sweeping ridicule of an entire country is counterproductive. It normalizes hopelessness and frames Nigerians as inherently unserious, rather than questioning leadership, training, or institutional priorities.
Constructive criticism targets actions and systems; it does not reduce millions of people to a punchline. When frustration with governance turns into self-contempt, it weakens public discourse and distracts from the real demand—professional security responses that protect lives and restore trust.
